On Friday we went to visit Mainz with the German students and Herr Brühl, the school principal of Theisstalschule. We took the train from Niedernhausen over Wiesbaden to Mainz. As soon as we arrived to Mainz, we walked through the historical centre (Altstadt) and we saw the beautiful market square (Marktplatz). There we could admire the colourful variety of food and flower stands selling typical products. After that, we started our touristy tour visiting the Gutenberg Museum where we could witness a demonstration of how a reproduction of an old printing machine worked 550 years ago as Master Gutenberg originally conceived. Later after the interesting museum we visited St Martin Cathedral. The variety of architectural styles must be highlighted because they stand out as it was built throughout the centuries. We took a really nice group photo as a souvenir and then we had the evening free to go shopping and visit Mainz with our partners.

Yesterday in the morning all of us met at the train station in Niedernhausen at 8.10a.m. to take a train to Wiesbaden and then another one to Rüdesheim, a little touristy and well-known village along the river Rhine, surrounded by vineyards. When we got to Rüdesheim we took a mountain lift which took us over the vines and idyllic landscape towards "Niederwald Denkmal", the famous monument called "Germania" which was erected to commemorate the unification of the German empire in 1871. After that, Peter Beck-Moretti, our German guide and English teacher at Theisstalschule, took us on an hour walk through the woods so that we could appreciate the panoramic views of the Rhine and its impressive vines and castles. Along the waz, we could taste wild blackberries, Riesling grapes and we even saw deer and discovered interesting species. Finally, we arrived to Assmanhausen, another typical village of the Rhine, where we took a chair-lift which took us down to the village and we could have lunch. The way back to Niedernhausen was lots of fun because we took a ship along the Rhine. It was a day full of adventures!

Volem a Niedernhausen

On Sunday, the exchange was already over. The Germans had to return to Germany. The plane left at 6:55 in the morning but we met at 5 in the morning and we were at the airport to accompany them. They checked in their suitcases and boarded at 6:30 a.m. We took a picture of the whole group. When it was time to go we all started to cry and stood looking sadly until the plane left.

On Tuesday the Germans arrived at the institute at nine in the morning and had a look at the facilities of the school. At ten o'clock Maite Hernandez accompanied them to the Gothic Quarter and visited the Picasso Museum, as there were too many people they could not see it completely. Then they visited the neighborhood and they went to the Born Quarter to take photographs of the church of Santa Maria del Mar. At noon they ate with their families and in the evening they had their first classes in Spanish and Catalan. It was a very rewarding experience for everyone, because although we didn’t understand their language we understood by gestures and smiles that even children are able to interpret the greatest sympathy.

On Monday 13th September, 24 Germans from Theisstalschule from Niedernhausen landed at 3 p.m. The 4th ESO students who took part in the exchange programme and our families were impatiently waiting because they were delayed. As you can see in the picture, we welcomed them with a banner that we did in 4 languages: Catalan, Spanish, English and even German. We were delighted with our guests! In the afternoon, we took them shopping to La Maquinista and they liked it a lot because the clothes are much cheaper in Spain than in Germany. As tired as they were, we immediately returned home to have dinner and to rest.
Intercanvi Theisstalschule i INS Dr. Puigvert
Esperem que us agradi!
